GF, it’s an abbreviation for Glass Fine Color and belongs to STN (super twisted nematic) LCD. You may be not familiar with GF LCD as there’s seldom digital products which applied such LCD. Features: The brightness is higher than other LCDs and it assures of low power. The defect is that it appears color cast.
TFT, it’s an abbreviation for Thin Film Transistor and belongs to active matrix LCD. It consists of thin film transistors. Every liquid crystal pixel is driven by four independent thin film transistors. The transistors drive pixel to light true color with 24 bit depth. Resolution ratio of TFT LCD can reach to UXGA (1600*1200).
TFD, it’s an abbreviation for Thin Film Diode. TFT LCD consumes high power and has high cost, EPSON, therefore, develops TFD specially for mobile. It belongs to active matrix LCD. Every pixel is driven by an independent thin film transistor, which means that they will not affect each other. Thus resolution can be improved greatly and display animation and color without conditions of streaking.
OLED, it’s an abbreviation for Organic Light Emitting Display. It’s also known as organic light emitting LCD. It applies organic light emitting technology which is the newest display technology. The display technology is different from traditional type as OLED needs no backlight but very thin organic material coating and glass substrate. When current goes, the organic material lights itself and the view angle is large enough so that we can watch the content of display clearly. In addition, OLED can be made thin and it saves energy markedly. That’s the reason that it owns the reputation of “dream LCD”.
