Nowadays only mobiles with LCD and OLED screens are on sale in the market.
OLED is the abbreviation of Organic Light-Emitting Diode. Its character of self-luminescence differs itself from traditional screen. Self-luminescence means that no backlight is needed. The most popular screen in the market is AMOLED, which belongs to OLED. Another type is PMOLED. Obviously, the biggest difference is A (active) or P (passive).
AMOLED technique is mastered completely by Samsung, which makes costs stay in a high position without going down because manufacturers shall buy the technique from Samsung only. Mobiles applied this technique are high-end.
LCD, the abbreviation of Liquid Crystal Display, is a traditional technique of screen. It’s disadvantage is that self-luminescence is not available and a backlight is needed. However, it’s a mature technique and many series are developed, which make the costs be acceptable by most people. When AMOLED becomes a mature technique, no doubt the market share of LCD will be cut down.
Except the above-mentioned differences, AMOLED shows better color than LED screen in fullness and contrast ratio.
Besides, the structure of AMOLED is simpler due to its self-luminescence and so it meets the market current, i.e., light and thin. What’s more, its feature of being bent makes screen owning higher ratio be possible.
